The Forgotten Symbolism of House Music
The Big Duck, on Long Island, NY
Def:
Duck House - [(dʌk)(hous)] indicates the merging of both functional and symbolic aspects of what is known as «House» music. While various sub-genres of House music focuses on formal, hardware-based orchestrating elements, Duck House refers to the word syntax, poetic dedication and messages incorporated – in short, the construction of meaning. Duck House is a meta framework containing L-I-T-E-R-A-L House music tracks, spanning a variety of subgenres. The term originates from architect Robert Venturi who defined the «duck» as a building formed and interpreted by its overall meaning.
