John Sanborn - Between Order and Entropy

Book Development and Design in close collaboration with John Sanborn and the editorial Team of Stephen Sarrazin and Philipp Ziegler for ZKM Karlsruhe. Special Tag: Mutual

The publication "John Sanborn – Between Order and Entropy" offers a comprehensive monograph of John Sanborn, who became one of the most prominent protagonists of the American video art scene in the 1970s and 1980s. It functions as a time machine, spanning both his early and recent works. Almost half a century of video art is explored through various essays that reflect on Sanborn’s as well as other artists’ iconic contributions. The book provides personal insights into what Sanborn does best: celebrating life through unusual storytelling, drawing on mythologies and always collaborating with humans, actors, dancers, lovers.

The design reflects not only the overarching themes of "Order" and "Entropy," but also mirrors John’s fascination with technology & echoing the never-ending aspiration and spirit of an amateur striving to master his craft. A dynamic interplay where experimentation and refinement coexist.

The Laboratory of Manuel Bürger also developed the exhibition design for John Sanborn - Between Order and Entropy at ZKM Karlsruhe, 2022 . More on this soon.

Well, it arrived and the book is glorious!
WAY beyond my expectations as every part of it sings. From the striking cover (and the hard bound quality) to the papers inside, the HIGH quality of the reproductions, to just the OOOOMPH of the whole experience - it's (as Philipp and Anita said) AMAZING.
BRAVO to Manuel for such an outstanding design and execution - my wife was like "wow, this feels like YOU" (which she meant in the best way possible) and for nailing the detail which tells the story so well.
Of course the dedication to Peter makes me sad, but history was his job, and this is a job well done.
Thank you ALL!
